CHICAGO, May 14 (UPI) -- Ryan Theriot hit two of Chicago's four home runs Wednesday and the Cubs held off San Diego for a 6-4 win in a game called in the eighth inning due to rain.

San Diego scored its fourth run in the eighth inning when Jody Gerut singled home Nick Hundley. Brian Giles tried to go from first to third on the base hit, but was thrown out to end the inning and the umpires immediately called a halt to the contest.

There was a 90-minute delay before the game was declared official.

Theriot hit a solo shot in the first inning, as did Alfonso Soriano, and then delivered another blast in the fourth. Geovany Soto contributed a two-run homer for the Cubs in the third.

Ted Lilly (5-2) went 6 1/3 innings to get the win. He gave up three runs on eight hits while striking out seven. Carlos Marmol worked the eighth inning to record his third save.

Chris Young (2-2) suffered the loss, allowing six runs on six hits in four innings.
