MLB: Chicago White Sox 6, Detroit 0

CHICAGO, May 7 (UPI) -- Mark Buehrle retired the first 19 men he faced Thursday and wound up giving up one hit over eight innings in carrying the Chicago White Sox past Detroit 6-0.

A.J. Pierzynski finished off a five-run first inning with a two-run homer and the White Sox then turned it over to Buehrle, who improved to 5-0 and halted Chicago's four-game losing streak.

After six perfect innings, Buehrle opened the seventh by getting Curtis Granderson on a liner to first base.

Buehrle then got two strikes on Placido Polanco before giving up a double to left and wound up walking two batters to load the bases with two away before getting out of the inning on Gerald Laird's fly ball to center.

Jermaine Dye singled in a run and Paul Konerko doubled home two more before Pierzynski hit his first-inning homer. Jayson Nix added a solo shot in the fourth.

Armando Galarraga (3-2) gave up six runs in six innings to take the loss.
