NHL: Boston 2, N.Y. Islanders 1

BOSTON, March 14 (UPI) -- In a 65-second, first-period span, Phil Kessel had a goal and an assist to lift the Boston Bruins to a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders.

His 30th goal this season gave Boston a 1-0 lead at 3:16 of the period and the assist came on Marc Savard's 22nd, increasing Boston's lead to 2-0 at 4:21.

Goalie Tim Thomas made 21 saves on 22 shots for the Northeast Division-leading Bruins, who have won two in a row on the heels of a 1-4-1 slide. It was their third straight home ice victory.

Mark Streit scored New York's lone goal at 10:25 of the second.

Netminder Yann Danis stopped 23-of-25 shots for the Islanders, who had won five of their previous seven contests.

New York's Blake Comeau had a six-game point streak snapped.

There were no power play goals on six combined man-advantage chances.
