NHL: Chicago 3, Atlanta 1

ATLANTA, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Goalie Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 36-of-37 shots Wednesday and the Chicago Blackhawks skated to a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.

It gave the Blackhawks four wins in their last five contests.

The only goal Khabibulin surrendered was when Ilya Kovalchuk scored his 24th goal of the season at 18:05 of the second period with the Blackhawks shorthanded.

Chicago also benefited from the power play, with Patrick Sharp (23) and Jonathan Toews (17) scoring man-advantage goals during the penalty-filled second period.

In the third, Chicago's Dave Bolland scored his 12th (empty net) to cap the scoring.

Netminder Kari Lehtonen was beaten twice on 27 shots in the Thrashers' fourth straight home ice loss.

They had won two of their previous three meetings with Chicago.
