NHL: Carolina 6, Toronto 4

RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A goal by Chad LaRose in the third period turned out to be the game-winner for the Carolina Hurricanes Sunday in a 6-4 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Eric Staal, Ray Whitney and Tuomo Ruutu each had a goal and assist for the Hurricanes.

Carolina goaltender Michael Leighton got the win, stopping 29 shots.

Mikhail Grabovski scored twice for the Maple Leafs.

Toronto goalie Curtis Joseph gave up five goals and finished with 24 saves.
