Texans' receiver leads AFC in October

NEW YORK, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Speedy Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is the AFC's offensive player of the month for October.

When October honorees were announced Thursday, Johnson was joined in the AFC by Miami linebacker Joey Porter (defense) and New England placekicker Stephen Gostkowski (special teams).

Johnson is the NFL's leader in receptions (56) and receiving yards (772), and finished October with 41 receptions for 593 yards.

The six-year veteran is first Texans player to be named to a POM award in franchise history.

Porter, in his 10th season from Colorado State compiled four tackles, a league-best 5 1/2 sacks, two forced fumbles (one resulting in a safety) and one fumble recovery.

Gostkowski, in his third year from Memphis, made 9-of-10 field goal attempts, and has made 23 of his past 24 field goal attempts dating back to last season.

His career field goal accuracy rate, 85.1 percent (57-of-67) is the best in Patriots history.
