NHL: Calgary 2, Washington 1

CALGARY, Alberta, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Jarome Iginla and Matthew Lombardi scored early in the second period Tuesday to bring Calgary a 2-1 victory over Washington.

The Flames defeated the Capitals for the first time in the 21st century.

Iginla produced a power-play goal to tie it one minute deep in the second and Lomardi came through on a slap shot 1:42 later for the game's final goal. Miikka Kiprusoff made 30 saves to get the win.

Sergei Fedorov's first goal of the season gave Washington a first-period lead.

Calgary, which ended a two-game losing streak, had not beaten Washington since March 13, 1999. The Capitals had six wins with two ties since then.
