MLB: Oakland 3, LA Angels 2

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Two runs scored on a ninth-inning throwing error by Francisco Rodriguez Wednesday, giving Oakland a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels took a 2-1 lead in the top of the ninth on Mark Teixeira's two-run homer, but Rodriguez, owner of a record-setting 58 saves this year, let the lead get away in the bottom half of the inning.

Daric Barton singled to open the Oakland ninth and Jack Hannahan drew a walk. Cliff Pennington then squared around to bunt, but instead sent a high chopper off the plate right to Rodriguez.

Once the ball finally reached him, the Los Angeles pitcher had to hurry his throw to first and it sailed past Teixeira into foul ground. Both runners scored on the error.

The division-champion Angels lost their second straight and Oakland won its fourth in a row.

Brad Ziegler (2-0) got the win despite giving up the ninth-inning homer and Rodriguez (2-3) took the loss.
