MLB: Detroit 9, LA Angels 6

DETROIT, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Placido Polanco had three RBI Wednesday and drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning to rally Detroit past the Los Angeles Angels 9-6.

The Tigers scored four times in the last three innings to slow down the Angels' sprint to the American League West title. Los Angeles' magic number to clinch the division crown remained at seven.

Detroit trailed by a run going into the seventh, but Curtis Granderson's RBI triple tied it and Polanco singled in Granderson to give the Tigers a 7-6 lead.

Mike Hessman, called up from Class AAA Toledo this week, added a two-run homer in the eighth.

Kyle Farnsworth (2-2) came on in the seventh and threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings to get the win.

The loss went to reliever Jose Redondo (7-2), who took over for starter Jon Garland in the seventh.

Los Angeles won five of its eight meetings with the Tigers in 2008 and claimed the season series for the eighth straight year.
