DETROIT, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Curtis Granderson touched off a six-run fifth inning with a two-run triple Friday, boosting the Detroit Tigers to a 6-3 victory over Kansas City.
The Tigers ended a four-game losing streak with a big inning that made a winner out of Zach Miner (8-4).
Miner allowed six hits and just one run over six innings, but was on the short end of the scoreboard until the Tigers sent 10 men to the plate in the fifth.
Marcus Thames reached first to open the inning on a throwing error and Edgar Renteria followed with a single. Both runners scored one out later on Granderson's triple to deep right.
Placido Polanco singled Granderson home, Magglio Ordonez had a base hit and both runners advanced on a double steal. Jeff Larish came through with a two-run single, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored the final run of the inning on a single by Gary Sheffield.
All the runs scored off Kyle Davies (5-6).
