NEW YORK, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Carlos Delgado had a two-run double in a five-run eighth inning Tuesday to lead the New York Mets to a 7-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Damion Easley hit a two-run single, and Ramon Castro, Fernando Tatis and David Wright each had an RBI for the Mets, who have won seven of their last eight games.

Oliver Perez gave up three runs on seven hits along with five walks in 6 1/3 innings. Aaron Heilman (3-7) got the win for pitching a scoreless eighth for New York, which remains 1 1/2 games ahead of Philadelphia for first place in the National League East.

Major League batting leader Chipper Jones went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for Atlanta.

Jeff Bennett (2-5) got the loss for giving up three runs on one hit with a pair of walks in 1 1/3 innings.

The Braves have lost eight of their last nine games.
