MLB: San Diego 16, Colorado 7

DENVER, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Brian Giles and Luke Carlin each drove in four runs Sunday for San Diego, which pounded Colorado pitchers for 20 hits and crushed the Rockies 16-7.

Giles produced four hits, including a home run. Carlin, Jody Gerut and Kevin Kouzman also homered.

San Diego scored seven runs in the third inning and had an 11-0 lead before Colorado got all seven of its runs in the fourth.

Brad Hawpe belted a three-run homer and Cory Sullivan hit a two-run triple for the Rockies.

Justin Hampson (1-1) pitched three scoreless innings and got the win.

The Padres pounded Colorado starter Livan Hernandez (0-1) seven hits and nine runs. Hernandez left in the third inning.
