ARLINGTON, Texas, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Jason Giambi homered and Derek Jeter drove in a pair of runs for the New York Yankees Wednesday en route to a 5-3 victory over the Texas Rangers.
Jeter singled in the go-ahead run in the third inning, Giambi led off the fourth with a shot over the center field fence and Jeter doubled in a run in the fifth.

New York starter Sidney Ponson (7-2) was the winner, scattering six hits and allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings. Mariano Rivera got his 27th save.
MIchael Young slugged a solo homer and Chris Davis added two RBI for Texas.
The Yankees got all their runs and eight hits off Tommy Hunter (0-1), who lasted 4 1/3 innings.
