Romero moves into U.S. Senior Open lead

COLORADO SPRINGS, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Eduardo Romero shot a 5-under 65 Saturday to move past overnight-leader Fred Funk and take the third-round lead of the U.S. Senior Open.

Romero finished 54 holes at 9-under 201. He is two strokes ahead of Funk, who stumbled on the back nine Saturday en route to a 1-under 69.

John Cook, who lost a playoff last week at the Senior British Open, matched the lowest nine-hole score in U.S. Senior Open history with a 30 on the back nine Saturday. He wound up with a 66 to take over third at 204.

Tom Kite (71) is the only other golfer under par for the championship. Kite is in fourth place at 209.

Greg Norman, who tied for third at the British Open, shot a 2-under 68 and is tied for fifth place at even-par 210 with Juan Quiros (70), Keith Fergus (66) and Jeff Klein (64), who had a 30 Saturday on the front nine.
