Garcia, who had been starting in Memphis, filled a roster spot left vacant when Mark Mulder was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a shoulder strain.

The Cardinals, who halted a two-game skid, got a two-run homer from Ankiel during a four-run third and a solo shot from Ludwick in the fourth. It was Ankiel's 20th homer of the year and Ludwick's 19th.

Zach Duke (4-6) took the loss, surrendering five runs on 10 hits in six innings.
