CINCINNATI, July 2 (UPI) -- Xavier Nady homered to tie the game in the third Wednesday and his two-run shot in the fifth gave Pittsburgh the lead en route to a 9-5 win over Cincinnati.
The Pirates let an early four-run advantage disappear, but rebounded behind Nady's two blasts to capture the three-game series.
Denny Bautista, the third of six Pittsburgh pitchers, worked 3 1/3 innings to get the win. Bautista (1-1) allowed one hit while throwing shutout ball.
Daryl Thompson (0-2) took the loss in the third start of his career. He was unable to protect a 4-0 lead, giving up seven runs on eight hits over 4 1/3.
After the Pirates scored four times in the first -- two of the runs coming in on ground outs -- Cincinnati stormed back on solo homers by Jay Bruce and Adam Dunn and Bruce's three-run shot.
Nady tied it at 5-5 with his first home run of the night and then put the Pirates in front for good with his one-out blast in the fifth.
Jose Bautista added a home run for Pittsburgh in the ninth.
