MLB: LA Angels 1, LA Dodgers 0

LOS ANGELES, June 29 (UPI) -- John Lackey came within one out of a complete-game three-hit shutout Sunday when the LA Angels of Anaheim edged the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0.

Lackey departed in favor of closer Francisco Rodriguez with two on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning. Rodriguez threw a wild pitch and walked a batter to load the bases, but escaped with his 32nd save after retiring James Loney on a game-ending groundout.

Lackey (6-1) walked two batters, struck out nine and threw 79 of his 120 pitches for strikes.

The Angels' run scored on Mike Napoli's second-inning single.

Juan Rivera and Maicer Izturis had two hits each for the Angels, who averted a three-game sweep at Dodger Stadium after being shut out Friday and Saturday.

Three players had one hit apiece for the Dodgers, who have split their last six games overall.

Losing pitcher Derek Lowe (5-8) gave up just one earned run and five hits in seven innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
