MLB: St. Louis 5, Boston 4

BOSTON, June 21 (UPI) -- Home runs by Skip Schumaker and Yadier Molina Friday allowed St. Louis to edge Boston 5-4.

It was the Cardinals' first trip to Boston since the Red Sox swept them while winning the World Series for the first time in 86 years.

Schumaker delivered a two-run blast in the seventh inning that gave St. Louis a 4-2 lead and Molina delivered a solo shot in the eighth that turned out to be the winning run.

The Cardinals, coming off a sweep at the hands of Kansas City, improved to 4-5 since slugger Albert Pujols was placed on the disabled list with a calf injury on June 11.

Kyle Lohse (9-2) came out after a rain delay at the start of the contest to get the win by surviving six innings. He allowed two runs on six hits. Ryan Franklin picked up a two-inning save, his 10th.

Tim Wakefield (4-5) suffered the loss. He gave up four runs on seven hits in seven innings.
