'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 19 (UPI) -- No. 2-seeded Anna Chakvetadze saw her defense of the Ordina Open end with a quarterfinal upset Thursday in the tennis tournament in the Netherlands.

Bondarenko faces qualifier Tamarine Tanasugarn in Friday's semifinals. Tanasugarn ousted local favorite Michaella Krajicek in come-from-behind fashion. She dropped the first set and was down 3-5 in the third before taking a 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory.

Friday's other semifinal is a marquee matchup between top-seeded Elena Dementieva and third-seeded Dinara Safina. Dementieva dispatched Sorana Cirstea 6-2, 6-4 Thursday while Safina advanced when seventh-seeded Katarina Srebotnik withdrew due to an ankle injury.

Safina, who has won 14 of her last 15 matches, owns a 4-2 edge in previous meetings with the world No. 5 Dementieva.
