Singh grabs Austrian golf event lead

VIENNA, June 7 (UPI) -- India's Jeev Milkha Singh shot 8-under-par 63 Saturday to grab a four-stroke lead at the European Tour's Bank Austria GolfOpen golf tournament in Vienna.

Singh, one of six co-leaders after Friday's rain-delayed first round, distanced himself Saturday with six birdies and an eagle in Round 2.

The event has been shortened to 54 holes.

Singh, 36, the first Indian golfer to become a member of the European Tour and the second to win one of its tournaments in 2006, recorded his best round this season. His 36-hole total is 15-under-par 127.

"I am very pleased with that," Singh told a throng of reporters, "but I won't get ahead of myself. I just want to focus on my process and routine and see what comes my way."

England's Simon Wakefield (65) is second at 11-under 131.

Mark Brown (63) of New Zealand vaulted from a tie for 42nd place into a share of third with Peter Fowler (67) of Australia at 10-under 132.
