The Cardinals then took the lead in the 10th on a solo home run by Joe Mather off Brian Sanches, which came with two out and on the 10th pitch of the at-bat.

Washington, however, got a leadoff single by Cristian Guzman in the bottom half of the inning and Dukes won it with a homer to center on a 2-2 pitch.

Ryan Franklin (2-2) gave up the homer, thus making Sanches (2-0) the winner.

Dukes had four hits, drove in four runs and scored three times after having come into the game with a .148 batting average. Washington ended a four-game losing streak.
