MLB: Boston 5, Baltimore 2 (13 innings)

BALTIMORE, May 31 (UPI) -- Manny Ramirez reached on an error and scored the first of three unearned runs in the 13th inning Friday, giving the Boston Red Sox a 5-2 win over Baltimore.

Both sides used seven pitchers and no runs were scored after the fourth inning until the Orioles' defense cost them the game. Baltimore made four errors overall.

With one out in the 13th and Chad Bradford (2-2) on the mound, Ramirez hit a ground ball to Melvin Mora at third. Mora's throw was wild, however, and Ramirez wound up on second, from where he scored the go-ahead from on a single by Mike Lowell.

Kevin Youkilis also singled and both runners were safe on a double steal as Jason Varitek was out swinging on a 2-2 pitch. Youkilis and Varitek then scored when shortstop Freddie Bynum threw away Coco Crisp's grounder.

Mike Timlin (3-3) worked the 12th to get the win and Jonathan Papelbon turned in a perfect bottom of the 13th for his 15th save.
