NEW YORK, May 29 (UPI) -- Pete Rose has admitted in a broadcast interview to betting about $2,000 a game on the Cincinnati Reds while managing them, Sports Illustrated says.

Rose, who was banished from baseball in 1989 because of his gambling, said on the Dan Patrick Show, "It was like $2,000. That's it. And it didn't change" no matter who was pitching. It was the first time he had admitted to betting that much.

"I didn't care who was pitching for me or who was pitching for the opposition," he said. "I just made it easy for the guys making the bets and just bet this much every game and that's the way we did it."
