CINCINNATI, May 28 (UPI) -- David Ross finished off a six-run first inning with a two-run homer Wednesday and Cincinnati coasted to a 9-1 win over Pittsburgh.
The Reds extended their home winning streak to nine games and will try to go for a series sweep Thursday.
Branson Arroyo benefited from the quick start to continue a turnaround to his season. Arroyo, who suffered three losses and a no-decision in his first four starts, evened his record at 4-4 by giving up one run on three hits in six innings.
Cincinnati scored nine runs against Pittsburgh pitching for the second straight game.
Tom Gorzelanny (4-5) managed to retire only two batters in his start for the Pirates.
Jerry Hairston opened the first with a single and went to second on a wild pitch before Jay Bruce walked.
The runners worked a double steal before Ken Griffey Jr. lifted a sacrifice fly that brought in Hairston.
Brandon Phillips then grounded out, moving Bruce to third, and Adam Dunn drew a walk. Edwin Encarnacion drove in Bruce with a double and both Dunn and Encarnacion came in on a single by Joey Votto. Ross ended Gorzelanny's night with a two-run blast.
