Saints lineman to turn himself in

NEW ORLEANS, May 21 (UPI) -- New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant went to Georgia Wednesday to face an involuntary manslaughter charge, The Times-Picayune reported.

The five-year veteran was one of seven men indicted Tuesday by a grand jury in Early County, Ga., for their involvement in a Feb. 3 fight outside of a nightclub in Blakely, Ga.

The report said 23-year-old Korynda Reed, a pregnant woman who was an innocent bystander, was shot to death.

Grant's specific involvement is unknown, but before he headed for Georgia, he attended an organized team activity at Metairie, La.

"I know that we have issued a statement, but the only thing that I might add is that obviously it's something that we take very seriously and certainly our condolences go out to the family," Saints Coach Sean Payton told the newspaper. "The most important thing is the justice system taking its process."
