Nick Price out front on Champions Tour

AUSTIN, Texas, May 2 (UPI) -- Nick Price, seeking his first Champions Tour victory, shot a 7-under 65 Friday to move in front after one round of the FedEx Kinko's Classic in Austin, Texas.

Price, a three-time major championship winner while on the regular tour, had a one-shot lead over Mark O'Meara at the Jack Nicklaus-designed Hills Country Club course.

Defending champion Scott Hoch shared third place at 67 with Fred Funk, D.A. Weibring, Denis Watson and Tom McKnight.

Price birdied five of the last six holes to seize an opening-round lead for the first time since he turned 50 last year. His last win on the PGA Tour came at the 2002 Colonial.

In the five previous years of this event, only one 18-hole leader -- Jay Haas in 2006 -- has gone on to win.
