BARCELONA, Spain, May 1 (UPI) -- Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer reached the quarterfinals Thursday at the Open Sabadell Atlantico in Barcelona, Spain.
Nadal, seeking his fourth consecutive title at this event, coasted past Feliciano Lopez 6-4, 6-3 at the Barcelona Tennis Club. Nadal has been dominating during this portion of the tennis season for the last three years as the players tune up on clay for the French Open.
Not only has Nadal won in Barcelona three straight seasons, he has captured the French Open three years in a row. His win in Monte Carlo last week was his fourth consecutive crown at that tournament.
Nadal will next meet Juan Ignacio Chela, who defeated Ernests Gulbis 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Ferrer rallied to defeat Nicolas Lapentti 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to set up a quarterfinal meeting with Tommy Robredo, a 6-1, 7-5 winner over Guillermo Canas.
Third-seeded David Nalbandian was an upset victim of Stanislas Wawrinka 6-3, 6-1.
