DETROIT, April 26 (UPI) -- Johan Franzen recorded a hat trick Saturday to lead Detroit to a 5-1 win over Colorado and give the Red Wings a 2-0 edge in their Western Conference semifinal.
Franzen has five goals and one assist in the first two games of this best-of-seven series.
Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and an assist and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Red Wings while Niklas Kronvall added two assists.
Ian Laperriere had the lone goal for Colorado.
Colorado played without center Peter Forsberg, who has a sore groin. Forward Wojtek Wolski will likely miss the rest of the series with an upper-body injury and defenseman Scott Hannan has a lower-body ailment.
Colorado goalie Jose Theodore, who was pulled from Game 1 because he was sick, allowed four goals on 20 shots before leaving midway through the second period Saturday. Peter Budaj stopped 19-of-20 shots the rest of the way.
Game 3 is scheduled for Tuesday in Denver.
