MLB: Tampa Bay 7, Minnesota 3

MINNEAPOLIS, April 17 (UPI) -- A two-run single by Nathan Haynes highlighted a four-run fifth Thursday, sending the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-3 victory over Minnesota.

Eric Hinske homered for the second straight game, helping the Rays end a three-game losing streak.

Tampa Bay defeated Minnesota for just the sixth time in 24 meetings.

Jason Hammel (1-1) gave up six hits and three runs in six innings for the victory. J.P. Howell worked the final three innings for the first save of his major league career.

The loss went to Boof Bonser (1-3), who surrendered seven runs on seven hits in four-plus innings. Bonser has failed to win any of his last 12 home starts.

Minnesota has dropped four out of five.
