SAN DIEGO, April 5 (UPI) -- Hiroki Kuroda allowed three hits over seven innings in his major league debut Friday and the LA Dodgers produced a sixth-run seventh to defeat San Diego 7-1.
Kuroda also walked and scored on Russell Martin's two-run single that touched off the seventh-inning outburst.
The Japanese pitcher signed a three-year deal with the Dodgers in December after spending 11 years with the Hiroshima franchise. He struck out four and did not walk a batter Friday.
It was a 1-1 game when San Diego's Joe Thatcher (0-1) came on to start the seventh in relief of Justin Germano. With one out, Thatcher walked Blake Dewitt, Kuroda and Rafael Furcal.
Martin then singled in two runs and a sacrifice fly from James Loney produced another. Andre Ethier and Andruw Jones both delivered run-scoring singles and another run scored on a wild pitch.
Brian Giles homered for the Padres.
