NHL: Philadelphia 4, N.Y. Islanders 3 (SO)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 29 (UPI) -- Daniel Briere's goal in the third round of a shootout Saturday gave the Philadelphia Flyers a 4-3 win over the New York Islanders.

After regulation ended in a 3-3 tie and the overtime was scoreless, Briere scored the game's only shootout goal, giving Philadelphia its seventh win in its last eight games against the losers.

Philadelphia trailed 3-2 before Mike Richards' 28th goal this season created the 3-3 tie with just over five minutes left in regulation.

Briere scored his 31st goal and Joffrey Lupul also scored once in regulation.

Patrick Thoresen had two assists and Antero Niittymaki stopped 27 of 30 shots for the Flyers, who overtook Boston to tie the idle New York Rangers for sixth place in the Eastern Conference playoff picture.

New York's goals in regulation were scored by Richard Park, Frans Nielsen and Blake Comeau.

Wade Dubielewicz stopped 51 of 54 shots but the Islanders suffered the ninth loss in their last 11 games.
