Stars' Ott suspended for three games

TORONTO, March 12 (UPI) -- Dallas forward Steve Ott has been suspended without pay for three games for hitting another player in the head, the National Hockey League said Wednesday.

The NHL said that with 7:29 left in the first period of Sunday's game against Colorado, Ott hit Avalanche defenseman Jordan Leopold in the head. Game officials didn't penalize the action.

Ott will sit out the Stars' games Thursday at Detroit, Saturday against Vancouver and March 19 against Anaheim. He will lose $12,834.21 in salary, which will be donated to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

Ott has 10 goals and 10 assists in 66 games this season. He's in his sixth season in the NHL, all with Dallas.
