NHL: N.Y. Rangers 3, Buffalo 2 (SO)

BUFFALO, N.Y., March 10 (UPI) -- Scott Gomez scored the deciding shootout goal Monday, handing the New York Rangers a 3-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres.

Jaromir Jagr and Fedor Tyutin scored in regulation, and Henrik Lundqvist blocked 19 shots for the Rangers, who have won seven of their last eight games to move into a tie for fifth with Ottawa in the Eastern Conference.

Jason Pominville had a goal and an assist for Buffalo, which has lost five of its last six and trails idle Philadelphia by three points for the eighth and final playoff spot.

Ryan Miller made 23 saves in a losing effort.
