Top-seeded Pennetta loses in Bogota opener

BOGOTA, Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Italian Flavia Pennetta was among the opening-round losers Tuesday at the Copa Colsanitas Santander tennis tournament.

Pennetta, who won in Vina del Mar last week, was beaten by Argentine qualifier Betina Jozami 6-1, 2-6, 6-4. Pennetta was the champion in Bogota in 2005 and runner-up in 2006.

Third-seeded Pauline Parmentier of France defeated German Julia Schruff 6-4, 6-3.

Paraguayan Rossana De Los Rios ousted fourth-seeded Frenchwoman Emilie Loit 7-5, 6-3, while fifth-seeded Austrian Yvonne Meusburger won over American Jill Craybas 6-4, 6-4.

Seventh-seeded Romanian Edina Gallovits beat Indian Sunitha Rao 6-1, 6-2, and ninth-seeded German Martina Muller topped Colombian Viky Nunez Fuentes 7-5, 7-6 (7-5).
