NEW ORLEANS, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Nine-time NBA all-star Jason Kidd, whose trade from New Jersey to Dallas was at least temporarily blocked, said Sunday he expected to go to the Mavericks.
Kidd, 35, considered one of the top point guards in the NBA, said prior to the league's all-star contest he "would probably be in Dallas." He made the comment on TNT's broadcast of the game when asked if he expected to be a Net or Maverick after the all-star break.
The Dallas Morning News reported that a revised trade was in the works. In the new deal, Kidd and Malik Allen go to Dallas for Devin Harris, Maurice Ager, Trenton Hassell, DeSagana Diop and Keith Van Horn, along with a couple of first-round draft picks, the newspaper said.
The Mavericks' Devean George had initially been involved in the swap but used a provision in his contract to block the deal.
The new agreement was likely to be submitted to the NBA for approval Monday, the newspaper said.
Kidd started his career with the Mavericks after they drafted him in 1994. After 2 1/2 seasons in Dallas, he played 4 1/2 years for the Phoenix Suns before joining the New Jersey club in 2001.
