Djokovic loses at Marseilles

MARSEILLES, France, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Frenchman Gilles Simon Thursday upset top-seeded Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3 in the second round of the Open 13 tennis tournament in Marseilles, France.

It was the seventh straight match victory for the unseeded defending champion at the Marseilles event and only his sixth career win over a player in the Top 10 world rankings.

"I wasn't 100 percent," the Serbian Djokovic said. "When you aren't 100 percent against a player like Simon, you cannot win."

Sweden's Robin Soderling knocked off second-seeded French star Richard Gasquet 4-6, 6-3, 6-2; and Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis topped 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic 6-4, 6-4.

No. 3 Russian Mikhail Youzhny, No. 4 Andy Murray of Britain, and No. 8 Paul-Henri Mathieu of France also advanced.

In Friday's quarterfinals, Simon plays Mathieu; Soderling faces Croat Mario Ancic; Murray meets France's Nicolas Mahut; and Youzhny battles Baghdatis.
