Right-hander Lieber, 37, returns to Cubs

CHICAGO, Jan. 16 (UPI) -- Thirty-seven-year-old right-hander Jon Lieber is back with the Chicago Cubs after signing a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.

Lieber, who pitched for the Cubs from 1999 to 2002, returns after stints with the New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies. He had a 3-6 record in Philadelphia last season before a foot injury and surgery sidelined him for the last half of the schedule.

Lieber's 20-6 record for the Cubs in 2001 made him the team's last 20-game winner.

His record in 13 major-league seasons is 129-121.
