Suns' Grant Hill undergoes appendectomy

PHOENIX, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Phoenix Suns forward Grant Hill underwent an emergency appendectomy and will be out of the lineup for up to three weeks, the team announced Wednesday.

Hill, 35, was diagnosed with acute appendicitis and taken to Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix. He had "successful surgery" Wednesday evening, The Arizona Republic reported.

"He was sick to his stomach," Coach Mike D'Antoni said.

D'Antoni said it was first believed Hill had the flu, as teammate Raja Bell had.

Team trainer Aaron Nelson said Hill had stomach cramps that worsened so he was taken to the hospital emergency room. "We did all the tests to rule anything out and that's what showed up," Nelson said.

The trainer said Hill would be out of the lineup two to three weeks.

Hill has averaged 15.9 points a game this season.
