NHL: Phoenix 5, Colorado 2

DENVER, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The first hat trick of Steven Reinprecht's career Wednesday lifted Phoenix to a 5-2 victory over Colorado.

Phoenix scored three unanswered goals late in the third period to win its second straight after having lost three in a row.

Ilja Bryzgalov made 24 saves and Radim Vrbata contributed an empty-net goal and an assist.

Both of Colorado's goals came from Marek Svatos, but it was not enough to keep the Avalanche from losing a fourth straight game.

Phoenix also defeated Colorado Monday night in a shootout.

Reinprecht scored twice in just over a minute of the first period to give the Coyotes a 2-0 lead.The game was tied at 2-2 when Reinprecht sent a centering pass to Shane Doan, who scored with 3:11 to play.

Colorado then scored twice into an empty net with Reinprecht getting the second of them with 21 seconds remaining.
