NHL: New Jersey 4, Philadelphia 2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- John Madden had two goals and one assist Sunday, lifting the New Jersey Devils over the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2.

Both goals were part of a three-goal second period and gave him 10 this season. His second gave New Jersey a 3-1 lead at 10:12 of the second.

Arron Asham and Jamie Langenbrunner (empty net) scored the other goals, with Langenbrunner getting an assist from Madden late in the third.

Martin Brodeur stopped 29 of 31 shots for the Devils, who have won five of their last six games against the Flyers.

Philadelphia's goals were scored by Mike Richards in the first and Daniel Briere in the third. It was Briere's 15th goal this season.

Antero Niittymaki made 34 saves on 37 shots for the Flyers, who have lost 10 games in a row at the New Jersey Meadowlands.

It was a penalty-filled contest with both teams going 0 for 6 on the power play.
