NHL: Florida 2, Washington 1 (SO)

WASHINGTON, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Stephen Weiss scored Florida's fourth goal in a marathon shootout Wednesday as the Panthers outlasted Washington 2-1.

The shootout lasted 11 rounds and the result made Florida's Jacque Martin the winningest coach in franchise history. It was his 84th victory.

Weiss headed to the left side of the goal and faked goalkeeper Olaf Kolzig off balance before shifting the puck to the right and poking it into the empty side of the net. That gave Florida its second shootout victory in as many games.

Brian Pothier had a chance to extend the shootout, but Tomas Vokoun made a pad save. It was the fourth straight win for the Panthers, a season high.

Florida's Richard Zednik scored a power-play goal 4:49 into the first period and Chris Clark tied it with 5:33 left in the second.

The Capitals have lost two in a row and seven out of nine. Florida has won all three meetings between the teams this year.
