Vikes' Peterson expected to play Sunday

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- Minnesota rookie running back Adrian Peterson is expected to return to the Vikings lineup Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Peterson tore the lateral collateral ligament in his right knee Nov. 11 against the Green Bay Packers. He missed the last two victories over Oakland and the Giants.

The Star Tribune reported the Vikings believed Peterson was healthy enough to play against the Giants, but decided to give him an extra week to recover.

Peterson will suit up Sunday, "providing he's able to make it through a week of practice," Vikings Coach Brad Childress was quoted as saying. "He's just got to continue to progress and make it through a full week of practice and our game plan."

In eight games this season, Peterson has run for 1,081 yards with eight touchdowns. He set an NFL record with 296 yards rushing against San Diego Nov. 5.
