Vikings' Peterson has ligament tear

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn., Nov. 12 (UPI) -- Minnesota rookie running back Adrian Peterson, one week after setting an NFL rushing record, suffered a knee injury and will likely miss at least one game.

Vikings Coach Brad Childress said an examination Monday on Peterson's right knee indicated a partial tar of the lateral collateral ligament. He was injured during Sunday's game against Green Bay.

"Clinically, he's got a two-plus tear. The knee is otherwise stable. All the other structures are good," Childress said, adding that surgery won't be necessary to repair the injury.

However, he didn't set a timetable for Peterson's return. The team said he would likely miss Sunday's again against the Los Angeles Raiders.

In eight games this season, Peterson has run for 1,081 yards with eight touchdowns. He's also caught 15 passes for 220 yards with a score. Peterson, a first-round pick from Oklahoma, set an NFL record with 296 yards rushing against the San Diego Chargers Nov. 5.
