RALEIGH, N.C., Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Shane O'Brien scored twice Thursday night as the Tampa Bay Lightning trounced the Carolina Hurricanes, 5-1.
O'Brien scored his third goal of the season at 16:12 of the first period, and his fourth at 18:11 of the second.
The second period goal snapped a 1-1 tie and put Tampa Bay in front for good.
Tampa Bay also got one goal each from Vincent Lecavalier, Vaclav Prospal and Filip Kuba.
Prospal and Michel Ouellet had two assists, while goalie Johan Holmqvist made 40 saves on 41 shots for the Lightning, who have won two in a row following a six-game losing streak.
Carolina's goal came from Ray Whitney at 2:04 of the third.
Goaltender Cam Ward was beaten five times on 31 shots for the Hurricanes, who had won two in a row.
Carolina's Matt Cullen extended his assist streak to eight straight games to equal the longest in Hurricanes' history.
On the power play, Tampa Bay went 1-for-4, and Carolina went 0-for-3.
