DENVER, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Marek Svatos scored the deciding shootout goal Wednesday as Colorado slipped by the struggling Edmonton Oilers 4-3.

The Oilers took a 3-2 lead after a wild first period and the score stayed that way until Ian Laperriere tied it 2:20 into the third.

Wojtek Wolski scored for Colorado on the first shot of the shootout and Edmonton tied it on its third attempt on an effort by Raffi Torres.

Svatos then got the best of goaltender Dwayne Roloson and Edmonton's Marty Reasoner was unable to come through in a must-score situation.

Peter Budaj overcame a struggling first period, when he allowed three goals in a six-minute span, and finished with 28 saves.
