MONTREAL, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Cristobal Huet stopped 29 shots Monday as the Montreal Canadiens posted a 2-0 shutout of the Buffalo Sabres.
Tomas Plekanec got the game's first goal in the second period, and Huet made that one-goal lead stand up despite the fact his team was outshot 29-19 for the game. Bryan Smolinski scored an empty-netter to provide a late insurance goal.

Ryan Miller saved 17 of the 18 shots he faced in net for Buffalo, but the Sabres were 0-for-2 on the power play and failed to capitalize during an otherwise dominant first period on their way to a third consecutive loss.
Buffalo outshot the Canadiens 16-8 in the opening period, but couldn't capitalize on its many scoring chances.
