Rose, a 27-year-old Englishman, captured the event on the second playoff hole, overcoming fellow countryman Simon Dyson and Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen to record his fourth European Tour victory and his first Order of Merit title as the tour's No. 1 player in 2007.

"That's awesome," Rose said. "It's a wonderful achievement. I wanted to do it this way. I'm so happy and really relieved."

He was the Order of Merit winner because South Africa's Ernie Els, the former leader, was absent, Els had previously committed to the Asian Tour's Singapore Open.

Rose shot just 3-over 74 Sunday, while Dyson shot 1-under 70 and Kjeldsen fired a 3-under 67 to get into the playoff.

Padraig Harrington (71) and Graeme McDowell (68) shared fourth place at 1-over 285.
