John Cook wins latest Champions event

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- John Cook shot a closing 6-under-par 65 Sunday, winning the Champions Tour’s AT&T Championship in San Antonio, Texas.

His 54-hole total was 15-under 198, which was two strokes better than runner-up Mark O’Meara (69).

Defending champion Fred Funk (67), Tom Kite (70) and Loren Roberts (67) shared third place at 12-under 201.

It was Cook's first victory in just his second week as a Champions Tour member. He was an 11-time winner on the PGA circuit.

Cook began his day with a bogey at No. 3e, but atoned for the error with back-to-back birdies at the fourth and fifth holes.

Kite, a native of Texas, has failed to win in 120 PGA and Champions tournaments in his home state. O'Meara held at least a piece of the lead after the first two rounds.

The next Champions Tour event is the season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship at Sonoma, Calif., beginning Thursday.
