Razzano continues winning ways

BANGKOK, Oct. 9 (UPI) -- Virginie Razzano ran her winning streak to 11 matches with a straight-set win Tuesday in first-round play of the $200,000 Bangkok Open tennis tournament.

Razzano, seeded fourth in Bangkok, is coming off back-to-back tournament victories -- her first WTA championships -- that have pushed her ranking to No. 27 in the world. She continued the torrid play in opening her draw in Bangkok with a 6-0, 6-3 rout of Lourdes Dominguez Lino.

Sixth-seeded Aiko Nakamura was upset, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), by Klara Zakopalova but the rest of the seeded players who had matches Tuesday made it through the second round.

Third-seeded Shahar Peer defeated Melinda Czink, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4; fifth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova stopped Maria Emilia Salerni, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2; and No. 7-seeded Flavia Pennetta swept past Noppawan Lertcheewakarn, 6-0, 6-2.

Also advancing were Olga Poutchkova, Anastassia Rodionova and Tamarine Tanasugarn.

The tournament continues through the week with the champion, to be determined Sunday, earning $28,161.
