NHL: Dallas 4, Boston 1

DALLAS, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Brenden Morrow and Sergei Zubov both had a goal and an assist Friday night to carry Dallas past Boston, 4-1.

After the Stars had lost their season opener to Colorado in Denver, Coach Dave Tippett said his team had to have better goaltending than it displayed against the Avalanche.

Goaltender Marty Turco responded by making 22 saves and keeping the puck out of the net while the Stars were building a 3-0 lead.

Morrow scored at 8:49 of the second period for the Stars' third goal and the Bruins managed their only tally with 2:01 left in the stanza when Patrice Bergeron scored on the power play.

Zubov, who assisted on Morrow's goal, beat Boston's Manny Fernandez 3:39 into the third.
